Haltech E6K Installation for SR20DET in Nissan S14 chassis - Sept 15 2003 Written by Brian D. Cain (bdc196@comcast.net) and Nick Shamla http://bdc.cyberosity.com/haltech http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HaltechSupport AIM 'Symajhi', ICQ 1733105, MSN bdc196@hotmail.com, Yahoo! bdc196 For use with Nissan S14 240SX or Silvia with Nissan SR20DET engine installed (utilizing stock Cam Angle Sensor) [E6K ECU and Wiring Harness] - Mount ECU between passenger side carpetting/floor and passenger-side chassis - Remove grommet for factory wiring harness at firewall and snake E6K harness through (difficult) [E6K Flying Leads] - Green and Gray switched power to Red w/ Pink notch 14awg on factory wiring harness - Red and Orange (one of two total) 12awg to +VE battery terminal - Black to GND (two leads; one lengthy flying lead and one w/ ring terminal both to GND) [E6K Fuel Pump Wiring] - Remaining Orange 12awg run back to fuel pump wiring on chassis above tank - Wire to black w/ yellow stripe lead [E6K Fuse Block and Relays] - Mounted on passenger-side firewall - May have to cut one relay plug and power harness leads to snake through firewall [E6K MAP Sensor] - Orange 5VDC, Yellow MAP Signal, and Black GND leads - Facing sensor upright, leads (left to right): Orange, Yellow, Black - Mounted on firewall at passenger side - Remember to connect vacuum source off intake manifold [E6K Air Temp Sensor] - Use Haltech-supplied sensor; Gray signal and Black GND leads [Nissan Ignitor Chip] - Input side has 5 leads and Output side has four leads (Use Nissan connector clips) - Input side: #1 and #4 parsed off from IGN OUT (Light Green) #2 and #3 parsed off from DIG OUT 1 (White/Black Stripe) G wired to GND - Output side: Each lead wired to respective coil signal (i.e. #1 to Coil 1, #1 to Coil 2, etc.) [Nissan Coils and Harness Wiring] - Four coils total; E6K will run them as waste spark firing two at a time (Coils 1/4 together and Coils 2/3 firing together 180 degrees from 1/4) Each coil has a 3-lead connector clip (retain these) - Each coil has ground, +VE power, and signal leads - Coil #1 on bumper side of engine; Coil #4 closest to fire wall; coils in sequential order - Blue/Red power lead from coils wired to constant +12VDC fused to 15A - Coil 1 signal lead (Black loop located near brake vacuum booster hardlines) should be left un-loomed as it is used as timing light pickup - Nissan coil wiring harness has ground lead; ground to driver's side of head near EGR valve - Use Nissan 5-lead connector clip for coil wiring spliced from ignitor chip output; match wiring to each coil from Ignitor chip output side [Nissan Throttle Position Sensor] - Usage of Nissan TPS questionable; sensor may 'float' at zero throttle positions - Facing plug on TPS, leads (from left to right): Black GND, White TPS Signal, Yellow 5V [Nissan Coolant Temp Sensor] - Can use factory sensor; will read approximately 10F to 15F degrees ahead of actual - Violet signal and Black GND leads - Sensor located on passenger side near lower radiator hose/thermostat assembly - The factory coolant temp sensor and water temp (gauge) sensor share a 3-lead connector clip; use this for convenience [Nissan Water Temperature Sensor (Cockpit Gauge)] - Single-lead spade connector next to factory coolant temp sensor needs to be re-spliced into factory wiring harness (solid yellow lead) - For S14 cockpit gauge, must use sensor from S14 factory motor; SR20 sensor does not work [Nissan Fuel Injectors] - One injector driver per injector; injectors are run on their own individual injector driver - One power lead from E6K harness (labeled +13.8VDC INJ on wiring diagram, Red 13awg) parsed off once for each fuel injector clip for power (some E6K harnesses already have this done) - Use Nissan fuel injector clips - Injectors are always powered; injector leads from E6K are GND's: INJ1 Light Blue (Injector 1 closest to bumper) INJ2 Blue with Red Stripe INJ3 Green w/ Red Stripe INJ4 Pink (Injector 4 closest to firewall) [Nissan Tachometer (Cockpit Gauge)] - AUXOUT Green/Black to Yellow/Red stripe on factory harness - Yellow/Red runs from factory harness, back to ECU connector (to ECU), then back out to tachometer itself. Both leads are Yellow/Red; need to splice between ECU connector and tachometer gauge or no signal - Input/Output setup in software must have 'Tacho Output' configured under Aux. Output Function [Nissan O2 Sensor] - Shielded gray on E6K O2 sensor harness - Factory SR20DET O2 sensor on turbocharger's exhaust downpipe will not work; use of aftermarket Bosch or similar narrow-band sensor needed [Nissan Cam Angle Sensor] - Avoid exhaust manifold and heat shield damage to CAS wiring - From E6K Trigger harness, need Gray/Red, Black, Green, and Yellow (from shielded portion) (Blue and Red leads in shielded portion are not used) - Facing CAS plug, leads (from left to right): Green (Home, 4 tooth signal) Yellow (Trigger, 360 tooth signal) Grey/Red +12vdc power Black GND - Aligning the Nissan CAS requires removal of the valve cover: Align crank manually to TDC on crank pulley (There are 6, white timing marks; from left to right, marks are 5BTDC, TDC, 5ATDC, 10ATDC, 15ATDC, and 20ATDC) Remove the CAS Align the mark on the gear to the mark on the CAS's body then re-insert [E6K Ignition Setup] Trigger Input Hall Effect Trigger Edge Rising Home Input Hall Effect Home Edge Rising Trigger Angle 43BTDC Trigger Type Nissan Spark Mode Direct Fire Engine Type Piston Output Type Constant Charge Coil Charge Time 1.7ms (using factory ignitor chip) Output Edge Falling Home Window Teeth 16 Nissan Tooth Offset 18 Coils on 4 Cyl Motor 2 [E6K Zero'ing Timing] - While online and running, and CAS lock nut tightened, set Lock Timing to 0 (TDC). Use timing gun with pickup on Coil 1 signal lead (black wire loop located near firewall) and adjust Trigger Angle until timing marker on front cover aligns with TDC mark on crank pulley
